1. Introduction
- An open channel is a conduit in which a liquid flows with a free surface.
- Free surface- Interface between moving liquid & overlying fluid medium with constant pressure.
- Prime motivating force- Gravity
- Weight of fluid along the slope acts as driving force
- The boundary resistance at the perimeter act as the resisting force.
- Waterflow is largely turbulent regime with negligible surface tension effects
- Froude number ( Non-dimensional No.) which governs the flow
