-  In 3rd world countries where the agricultural sector plays a key role in their economic growth, the management of water resources is an item of high priority in their developmental activities

Hydrology

- Science of water 
- Deals with occurrence,circulation and distribution of water (of the earth and earths atmosphere)
- Classified into
  1. Scientific Hydrology - concerned with academic aspects
  2. Engineering Hydrology  - deals with
              i) Estimation of water resources
             ii) Study of Processes- Precipitation, Runoff, Evapo-Transpiration and their Interaction
            iii) Study of Problems- Floods and Droughts, Strategies to combat them.
